Architectural Art Glass

Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience

For the Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Experience, Pearl River Glass Studio has created a stained glass window titled Father of Waters – a translation of “Mississippi” by the Algonkian-speaking Indians. In his design Young depicts southern icons with a nod to the aesthetic of Walter Anderson. Its eye-level placement gives museum visitors the unique opportunity to see the window’s quality, creativity, and imagination up close.

Columbus Orthopaedic Center

Artists have always depended on patrons to support their creative efforts.  Columbus Orthopaedic is a perfect combination of patron and artisans. The new facility in Starkville incorporates three significant glass artworks in a medical architectural setting.  The medical art therapy discipline recognizes the value of art in the treatment environment.  Both the Starkville and Columbus physical rehabilitation facilities treat the soul as well as the body with the exquisite beauty of art glass.

“On a recent evening I stopped by the Holocaust Memorial at Beth Israel Congregation. I was taken back by the detail of the lighting at night against the dark sky.  The Memorial is open free to the public 24/7/365.  Plans are underway to include the Memorial on tours of sites in Jackson as well as religious services by the Synagogue.”READ MORE

Creation of the Holocaust Memorial

Original Art Work Holocaust Memorial 09 14 2015

The Holocaust Memorial tells the compelling story through images in glass art. When I was asked to prepare a design for the Holocaust Memorial I gladly accepted knowing the challenges ahead for me and my studio team.  All along the way members of the Beth Israel Congregation have been supportive by allowing us the freedom to express the ideas shown here.  The images ground us in the key points of the Holocaust narrative.  The abstract images allow each viewer the freedom to experience the Holocaust Memorial for themselves.READ MORE

New Kiln, New Innovations

Pearl River Glass Studio has been developing architectural art glass for some years now. We ran into some technical problems with the type of kiln being used when we began to create larger and larger kiln-formed glass pieces.  Working from my existing knowledge I had purchased electric kilns with heating elements on the top and problems ensued with annealing large glass pieces. We discovered from consultation with Eric Lovell at Uroboros Glass that their kilns had heating elements on all six sides of the kiln enclosure.READ MORE

Chapel at St. Dominic’s

2 Donor Wall 2.2

Design by Andrew Cary Young

The narrative theme for the donor wall creates a moving and meaningful image to honor the Lord in his house of worship.   Those that contribute to the building of the chapel have a place to receive recognition for their generosity.  The cross saltire suggests His presence during the passion of Christ and the purple robe His victory over death. Interlocking circles of the chapel quatrefoil form are repeated in the pattern of color in the glass tiles in the wall.  The green suggests the beauty of the earthly realm and the blues the grace given by the Holy Spirit.READ MORE
