JIm & Donna’s Residence: Gulf Wave Art Glass Sculpture
Jackson, MS
Bringing the Tranquility of the Gulf to Jackson, Mississippi
Installed in 2012, the Gulf Wave Art Glass Sculpture at the Barksdale Residence in Jackson, Mississippi, is a breathtaking fusion of art, nature, and craftsmanship. Inspired by the owner’s love for the turquoise waters and white sandy beaches of the Gulf of Mexico, this custom installation transforms the outdoor hot tub area into a serene, light-filled retreat.
A Contemporary Approach to Art Glass
Designed by Andrew Young and crafted by Pearl River Glass Studio, this installation consists of four kiln-formed glass panels, each approximately 4’x6’ in size. The design captures the movement of waves meeting the shoreline, mirroring the natural rhythms found in tree silhouettes, drifting clouds, and water’s edge patterns left behind by receding tides.
The artwork was created using a mix of transparent and opal Oceanside COE 96 glass, carefully selected to mimic the colors and fluidity of the Gulf. The kiln-firing process for a project of this scale requires days of careful temperature control, allowing the glass to expand and contract properly as it anneals and cools. This method ensures the durability and brilliance of the final piece.
A Perfectly Integrated Design
The Gulf Wave Art Glass Sculpture was installed onto a glass tile wall adjacent to the outdoor hot tub, seamlessly blending with the surrounding environment. The result is an elegant, contemporary statement piece that enhances the space, evoking the soothing presence of ocean waves right in the heart of Jackson.
A Lasting Impression
More than just an installation, this piece serves as a daily reminder of the beauty and tranquility of coastal waters, offering the homeowner a moment of reflection and connection to nature with every visit to their poolside retreat. Through expert craftsmanship and innovative glasswork, Pearl River Glass Studio has once again transformed a vision into a timeless work of art.
